With three children of his own, Dr. Roberts has experience working with kids and making them feel at ease. We know that some kids are nervous about coming to the dentist. We know how to help them have a great time while learning about dental hygiene.
Despite claims that they serve the entire family, many dentists are uncomfortable working in tiny people’s mouths. It’s not that it’s by any fault of their own – after all, working with children can be a completely different animal. Children, like adults, can be anxious and worried about their trip to the dentist. Whether the trip is because of a toothache or for a routine check-up, it’s often hard for children to gauge how this dental visit will go. But for Dr. Roberts, it’s not a problem at all. Maybe that comes from working with the three children of his own.Dr. Roberts understands that children (especially young children) need special care. Often, they haven’t had much interaction with their dentist and can be very unsure of what to expect. Even the thought of going to the dentist can make children scared, nervous or leave them dreading what’s to come.
Although working with children is vastly different than working with adult patients, a few things remain the same – children need to be encouraged, reassured and respected. Don’t be surprised if your children leave our office raving about how “easy” their experience was and how “they weren’t nervous at all.” Even more surprising, we’ve often heard children express excitement at their next visit with Dr. Roberts! Our goal is make sure that children are not only put at ease, but also realize the importance of going to the dentist. We strive to make sure that our little patients understand why we’re doing what we’re doing and put an emphasis on making the environment as fun and calming as possible. We want children to want to come to the dentist because the good dental hygiene that they learn today will be sure to carry over into their adulthood.
Remember, it’s essential that good dental habits are formed early. The simple task of getting used to visiting with the dentist can yield a lifetime of beautiful smiles and healthy gums. If your small children are nervous, just let us know. We’ll work our magic to put them at ease and ensure that they’re getting the most stress-free visit possible. We’ll give you back children with healthy teeth and happy smiles!
